Mackmyra Swedish Whisky

Mackmyra is a pioneering Swedish single malt whisky brand, founded in 1999 by eight friends who set out to create a whisky rooted in Sweden's landscape, climate and ingredients. Based near Gävle, it became a leading name in the rise of Nordic whisky, known for combining traditional malt whisky production with a distinctly Swedish approach to cask selection and maturation.

The brand's character has often been shaped by local barley, Swedish oak, smoky recipes using indigenous peat and maturation in unusual locations, including the Bodås mine. Mackmyra's whiskies tend to be bright, aromatic and contemporary in style, with orchard fruit, vanilla, spice and clean malt notes, whilst its peated releases add a drier, herbal smoke.

Following financial difficulties and bankruptcy proceedings in 2024, Mackmyra's assets were acquired by Lennart Hero and No. 1 Capital, providing the brand a way forward under new ownership. Its legacy remains significant: Mackmyra helped establish Sweden as a credible whisky-producing nation and continues to be associated with innovation, transparency and a strong sense of place.
