Strathmill Whisky

Strathmill is a Speyside single malt distillery in Keith, Moray, with origins in the 1890s. Built on the site of a former meal mill, it was first known as Glenisla before taking the Strathmill name under W. & A. Gilbey, whose later links with Justerini & Brooks helped shape the distillery's long association with blending.

Today Strathmill is owned by Diageo and remains a relatively quiet but active producer. Much of its whisky is used in blended Scotch, particularly J&B, and official single malt releases are rare beyond the 12 Year Old in Diageo's Flora & Fauna range. Independent bottlings appear from time to time, giving enthusiasts a broader view of a distillery that is otherwise easy to overlook.

The whisky is generally light, sweet and gently aromatic, with notes of apple, pear, vanilla, cereal, honey, soft spice and a slightly creamy malt character. Its production set-up, including purifiers on the spirit stills, helps create a cleaner, more delicate style suited to blending but also appealing as a subtle single malt.

Strathmill is a reminder that some of Speyside's most interesting whiskies sit just outside the spotlight. When bottled on its own, it offers a soft, understated style with enough sweetness, texture and charm to reward drinkers who enjoy exploring the quieter corners of Scotch whisky.
