J G Monnet Cognac

J.G. Monnet is a historic Cognac house whose story begins not with a single founder, but with an association of vineyard owners established in 1838 under the name Société des Propriétaires Vinicoles de Cognac. The Monnet name came later, when Jean-Gabriel Monnet took control of the business in 1897 and gave it the identity by which it remains known today.

The salamander has long been central to the house's imagery, symbolising endurance, fire and transformation — a fitting emblem for Cognac, whose character is shaped by distillation and extended ageing. It also carries strong regional significance, echoing the salamander associated with François I and the history of Cognac itself.

Today, Monnet is best understood as a historic brand with deep roots in Cognac and a revived contemporary presence, rather than simply as an old family house in continuous private hands. Its modern range is presented with a refined, fruit-forward style that reflects the house's established place in the category while giving the name renewed visibility in export markets.
