Blue Spot Irish Whiskey is a treasured member of the celebrated Spot family, reintroduced in 2020 by Irish Distillers at Midleton Distillery in County Cork. A seven-year-old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, it is matured in a combination of bourbon barrels, sherry butts and Madeira casks, a recipe that delivers both richness and a notably lively, spicy character.
The whiskey continues a tradition linked to Dublin wine merchants Mitchell & Son, whose bonded casks were once marked with spots of coloured paint to indicate their intended age. In that system, blue signified a seven-year-old whiskey, while green, yellow and red marked older expressions. Blue Spot's name therefore preserves both the family heritage and the practical warehouse markings from which the broader Spot range takes its identity.
Today Blue Spot stands as one of the more dynamic expressions in the modern Spot line-up, combining the creamy texture and spice of pot still whiskey with the added complexity of fortified-wine cask maturation. Its revival has helped reconnect the contemporary Irish whiskey drinker with one of the most colourful chapters in Dublin whiskey history.
