Bladnoch is a Lowland single malt Scotch whisky from Dumfries and Galloway, close to Wigtown on the banks of the River Bladnoch. Founded in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland, it is widely recognised as Scotland's southernmost working whisky distillery and one of the oldest names in Lowland malt.
After a difficult modern history that included closure and administration, Bladnoch was bought in 2015 by Australian entrepreneur David Prior and returned to production following significant renovation. Under this revived ownership, the distillery has combined its historic setting with a more contemporary approach to cask selection, presentation and flavour development.
Bladnoch's style is often associated with the lighter, fruitier side of Lowland whisky, showing orchard fruit, citrus, flowers, soft malt and gentle spice. The current range has included expressions such as Vinaya, Liora, Alinta and age-stated releases, with both unpeated and peated spirit used to give the portfolio more breadth than a purely delicate Lowland profile might suggest.
Today, Bladnoch feels less like a museum piece than a revived distillery with a clear point of view. Its whiskies retain the elegance expected of the region, but add enough texture, cask influence and modern confidence to make the brand relevant to a new generation of single malt drinkers.
