Auchroisk Whisky

Auchroisk is a Speyside single malt distillery at Mulben, built in the early 1970s to supply malt whisky for blending. Created by Justerini & Brooks, it began production in 1974 and was closely linked from the outset with J&B, whose blenders needed a reliable source of Speyside malt with weight, texture and structure.

Today Auchroisk is owned by Diageo and remains an active distillery, though it is still much better known within blending than as a mainstream single malt. Its official bottling history has been somewhat unusual: the whisky was at one time marketed as The Singleton of Auchroisk, while the 10 Year Old in Diageo's Flora & Fauna range remains one of the best-known releases under the distillery name. Independent bottlers have also played an important role in showcasing Auchroisk at different ages and cask strengths.

The spirit is typically firm, nutty and spicy, with notes of malt, cereal, apple, citrus peel, toasted nuts, vanilla and dry oak. It can have more body than some lighter Speyside malts, and sherry or refill cask maturation can bring out richer flavours of honey, dried fruit, chocolate and warming spice.

Auchroisk is one of those modern Speyside distilleries whose reputation has developed quietly, mostly through blends and occasional bottlings rather than heavy promotion. When well bottled, it offers a distinctive, slightly muscular Speyside style that rewards drinkers looking beyond the region's more familiar names.
